Yoko d’Holbachie

Born in 1971 in Yokohama, Yoko d’Holbachie  is inspired by accepted culture in her native Nihon and beyond. d’Holbachie’s paintings commerce at once vividly inviting prep added to disturbingly dark; candy coloured creatures with wormlike tentacles travel function fantasy wonderlands. Elements of Kawaii, Anime, Pop Art and Surrealism blend together in tightly rendered works that pull the eyewitness in with bright, cheerful spirit and hold on with dark, complex elements.

Though the artist wants her viewers to freely interpret her work, she cites often drink butterflies and birds as characters of reincarnation and using cabalism symbols as occult elements.

She also uses Japanese legends snowball myths to create concrete subjects for her paintings.
